INSPECTION & REPORTING

DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS

Providing a way to generate missing CAD files and update or create as-built documentation, reverse engineering allows users to quickly digitize a part or object and create a fully surfaced CAD model which can then be used to reproduce an item.
Using non-contact 3D laser scanning, FARO’s portable CMM and 3D documentation solutions integrate 3D modelling processes into a single step. FARO’s non-contact measurement solutions are ideal for a multitude of reverse engineering applications including the development of virtual simulations of automotive interiors, rapid prototyping in plastics manufacturing and composite surface inspections in aerospace assembly.

IN-PROCESS AND ON-MACHINE INSPECTIONS

In the past, machine shop inspection has required the removal of parts from a CNC machine to a temperature controlled inspection area for surface inspection or dimensional inspection of the part. This is time-consuming and expensive. Fortunately, incorporating portable CMMs directly into production lines can streamline this process.
The portability of FARO’s 3D metrology tools, like the measuring arm, enables efficient in-line, in-process and on-machine inspections. This delivers consistent, accurate measurements directly on or at the machine producing the parts.

VIRTUAL SIMULATION

Movie producers and video game designers can rapidly scan and import entire movie sets, characters and objects into various CGI platforms using 3D laser scanning technology from FARO. This captures scenes considerably faster and in better detail than traditional techniques.
The FARO Laser Scanner is a 3D documentation solution offering point cloud data acquisition. Its 3D modeling capability allows producers to map out camera angles, special effects and storylines. Applying the techniques of computer-generated imagery (CGI) and virtual reality they can create never-before-seen effects within an incredibly short time.
